One of the best activities for fighting cellulite is also one of the simplest — accessible to everyone, regardless of age or fitness level. We’re talking, of course, about… walking! Walking regularly is essential for staying in shape, maintaining your figure, and getting rid of those stubborn dimples. Here’s everything you need to know!

What is walking as exercise?

Walking is considered a cardio activity, which means it helps you burn calories and lose weight. In practice, all you need to walk as a sport is a good pair of trainers and comfortable workout clothes. Then just walk! That said, make sure you keep up a brisk pace (roughly twice your normal walking speed) to make your session truly effective.

This activity is suitable for everyone, whatever your age or fitness level. If you have joint issues, check with your doctor before getting started.

Walking to fight cellulite

As a cardio activity, walking encourages your body to draw energy from its fat reserves — the very reserves responsible for cellulite. By walking briskly for long enough, you’ll gradually break down stored fat and reveal smoother skin.

Walking also helps improve your blood and lymphatic circulation, reduce water retention, and flush out toxins. The result? Slimmer, more toned legs — and less cellulite!

What are the other benefits of walking?

We’ve seen how walking can help reduce cellulite — but that’s not all! Walking offers a wide range of benefits. Here are the main ones:

  • Lose weight: walking burns calories and can help you shed unwanted pounds.
  • Feel lighter: walking is ideal for boosting circulation. Perfect if you suffer from heavy legs!
  • Get a flatter stomach: walking stimulates your digestive system and helps with digestion — great for a flatter tummy.
  • Tone up: walking tones muscles throughout the body. Your legs will do most of the work, but your abs, back, and arms will also be engaged and strengthened.
  • Stay in great shape: as a cardio activity, walking helps lower the risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes.
  • Unwind: after a good walk, you’ll feel calmer and more relaxed, thanks to the hormones released during exercise. Try it — you’ll see!

If you’re new to exercise, don’t set the bar too high — you don’t want to lose motivation! Start with 30-minute sessions, 3 to 4 times a week. These sessions will help burn excess fat before it has a chance to settle into cells and form dimples.

Once you feel comfortable with that routine, gradually increase the duration until you reach 1 hour of walking, 3 to 4 times a week, always at a brisk pace. At this level, you’ll truly start tapping into your fat reserves and firming up your skin.

You can then increase the intensity of your hour-long sessions by choosing routes with hills, slopes, and even stairs. Everything goes… except slowing down!

Keep in mind, though, that while walking will help smooth your skin, only palper-rouler massage can truly break down the fatty deposits responsible for cellulite. So don’t forget to complement your brisk walking sessions with regular massage sessions. You can easily do palper-rouler at home with our Anti-Cellulite Challenge using the cupping cup!

Our tips for walking more

To see results even faster, try to walk as much as possible throughout the day. Here are a few tips to help:

Walk to work

Taking the car or public transport isn’t always necessary! If your commute takes less than 30 minutes on foot, consider walking instead. This daily walk will help you arrive feeling more awake, energised, and even more relaxed (especially if you’ve avoided the traffic!).

Take the stairs

Skip the escalators and lifts — take the stairs instead. Of course, if your office is on the 26th floor, feel free to take the lift partway and walk the last few floors… Taking the stairs more often is a great way to tone your lower body and work towards the legs and glutes you’ve always wanted!

Take your lunch break outside

At lunchtime, step away from your screen and head outside. As well as being more enjoyable, a walk outdoors will give you a proper break and help you return to your desk feeling refreshed.

Use a pedometer to walk more

Doctors recommend taking at least 10,000 steps a day. To check whether you’re hitting that target, try using a pedometer. This handy little device can also be a great motivator — set yourself daily step goals and watch yourself progress.

Listen to music

If you tend to find walking boring, listening to music can make all the difference. Put on a motivating playlist and the minutes will fly by! Give it a try — you’ll be surprised.

Walk with friends

Finally, our last tip for walking more every day: bring your friends along! You’ll keep each other motivated, enjoy some quality time together, and look after your health and figure all at once.
