5 tips to hide cellulite at the beach

5 tips to hide cellulite at the beach
Contents

If you’re heading to the seaside in the next few days, let’s be honest: it’s a little late to give cellulite any in-depth attention! That said, a few simple tricks can help you camouflage cellulite at the beach: a sarong, self-tanner, the right position on your towel, a shimmering oil and a well-chosen swimsuit. Here are our 5 tips for disguising cellulite, perfect for enjoying your sunbathing sessions without worrying about orange-peel skin. There’s also a bonus tip for your trousers once you’re back in town…

Wear a sarong

Basic and obvious, perhaps — but incredibly useful! To hide cellulite at the beach or by the pool, don’t forget to tuck a sarong into your suitcase. Tied as a dress or a short or long skirt, this little piece of fabric will help you feel beautiful in any situation.

Self-tanner to camouflage cellulite

Applying self-tanning lotion to the legs

When chosen and applied correctly, self-tanner gives skin a gorgeous glow, keeps it hydrated and blurs the appearance of dimples. You can start applying it all over your body before you leave for your holiday, either on its own or mixed into your moisturiser. Once you’re on the beach, your natural tan will take over! Either way, don’t forget to protect your skin with a high-SPF sunscreen. UV rays can dry out and weaken the skin, which does no favours for the look of orange-peel skin…

Find the right position

Once you’re on the beach, pay attention to how you’re lying on your towel if you don’t want cellulite to show! As you know, the more the skin is “bunched up”, the more visible the dimples become. Get into the habit of lying with your legs straight or slightly bent, and skip the cross-legged position — it’s really not ideal for hiding cellulite.

Apply a shimmering oil

Shimmering oil is an excellent way to illuminate your skin and draw in the light, which has the effect of blurring dimples. Ideally, choose one that’s moisturising, offers sun protection and is water-resistant.

Choose the right swimsuit

If your cellulite is mainly around your stomach and hips, you might want to go for a one-piece swimsuit, which will cover that area. If it’s more on your bottom, opt for a swimsuit with boy-short bottoms. In any case, go for darker colours, which are less likely to let orange-peel skin show through the fabric.

And how do you hide cellulite in trousers?

Back in town, the swimsuit rule still applies: darker colours are less likely to show the texture of your skin.

When it comes to fabric, go for thick, opaque materials rather than thin, clingy knits that hug every dimple. Straight or flowing cuts are also more flattering than ultra-fitted styles, such as very thin leggings.

Temporarily hiding cellulite is handy, we can all agree on that! But you can also look after your skin every day, with the right skincare, a balanced diet and regular physical activity.

Frequently asked questions

How can I hide cellulite in a swimsuit?

Pick your cut according to where your cellulite sits: a one-piece for the tummy and hips, boy-short bottoms for your bum, ideally in a dark shade. Then add the finishing touches, such as a sarong, a little self-tanner or a shimmering oil, and avoid sitting cross-legged on your towel.

Does self-tanner help to disguise cellulite?

Yes, it’s one of our favourite tricks: an even tan visually blurs dimples. Start before you set off so you arrive on the beach already golden, and always keep using suitable sun protection.

How should I lie on the beach so cellulite is less noticeable?

The more the skin is bunched up, the more visible dimples become. Lie with your legs straight or slightly bent, and avoid sitting cross-legged. When you get up to walk about, a sarong tied as a skirt or a dress is also really practical.

Does the sun help to hide cellulite?

Not really. A tan may blur orange-peel skin, but UV rays can dry out the skin, which can make dimples more visible. Self-tanner is a better option for that glow, and a high-SPF sunscreen should stay in your beach bag every time you sunbathe.
