If you’re looking to slim down and reduce cellulite, you’ve probably already noticed: the internet is an incredible source of information — the only problem is how reliable that information actually is. You can find absolutely everything and its opposite online, and after spending a fair amount of time searching for solutions, it’s easy to feel completely lost.
When it comes to weight loss, the web goes all out. Sometimes you come across completely far-fetched ideas that somehow seem to work; other times, things that sound perfectly sensible but just don’t seem to do anything for you. To help you cut through the noise, here’s a quick rundown of the tips you may have heard about that won’t actually help you slim down or reduce cellulite!
Diet sodas are not your allies

Sure, if you’re going to drink something sweet, you might as well go for the diet version, right?
Wrong. Studies show that diet sodas increase appetite and lead people to consume, on average, 20 to 25% more calories at the next meal. On top of that, they are high in sodium, promote water retention, and fuel cravings for sweet foods. And sugar, as we all know, doesn’t exactly go hand in hand with weight loss. If you don’t want your cellulite to get worse, steer clear of sodas and, more broadly, all “light” or reduced-calorie products.
A fitness tracker won’t necessarily help you slim down
Studies have shown that fitness tracker users lost twice as little weight as people who didn’t use one. It seems that once the novelty wears off, people with a tracker tend to lose motivation more quickly — either because they get discouraged when they can’t hit their device’s targets, or because they allow themselves to reward their efforts with a treat meal more often. We’re not saying throw your tracker away, but clearly, it should be used as a simple indicator, a source of encouragement — not something to obsess over!
You don’t have to force yourself to eat breakfast

For years we’ve been told it’s the most important meal of the day and that skipping it leads to weight gain. But when researchers revisited those studies, they found that people who skip breakfast are statistically more likely to have poor eating habits overall, exercise less, smoke, and drink more alcohol.
From there, a leap was made: instead of saying people in poorer health and with excess weight often skip breakfast, the conclusion became that skipping breakfast is bad for your health and contributes to cellulite. So, listen to your body: if you’re hungry, enjoy a balanced breakfast — and if you’re not, that’s perfectly fine. Just bring a snack for later!
Doing crunches won’t make your tummy disappear
No, churning out crunch after crunch and similar exercises won’t melt away your abdominal fat or make cellulite on your stomach and hips vanish. Ab exercises are great for building muscle — but if those muscles are covered by a layer of fat, you won’t see the results. Instead, combine regular workout sessions with a balanced diet and palpate-roll massages to achieve a flat, toned tummy.
Cardio isn’t necessarily the best solution for slimming down

Or rather, not cardio alone — specifically long, low-intensity sessions like simple walking. If you’re significantly overweight and very sedentary, this can be a great starting point. And even if that’s not your situation, you’ll still benefit from it: reduced stress, lower blood pressure, and more. But when it comes to burning fat and tackling cellulite, it won’t be the most effective approach. Asking your body to sustain a long, low-intensity effort on a regular basis simply allows it to adapt. It learns to perform that effort using as little energy as possible, and won’t tap into stored fat reserves — the very reserves responsible for cellulite.
Instead, varying the intensity, format, and duration of your workouts will push your body to draw more heavily on its energy stores — and therefore on fat!
