A family meal that went a little too far, a box of chocolates demolished in front of the TV, canapés eaten out of habit rather than hunger… The festive season often goes hand in hand with overindulgence! But don’t worry — we’ve all been there, ignoring that full feeling and eating just a little too much. So to help you recover well after overdoing it, avoid weight gain and worsening cellulite, here are our tips.

What happens in our body after overindulging?

After a truly excessive meal, our stomach tends to press against the surrounding organs, causing those very unpleasant stomach aches. On top of that, our body produces large amounts of acid in an attempt to digest everything we’ve eaten — which can lead to acid reflux. To make matters worse, overindulgent meals are often rich in fatty foods, which trigger digestive discomfort. And finally, a very heavy meal is likely to leave you desperate for a nap, as your body channels all its energy into digestion!

But don’t worry, all these symptoms linked to overindulgence are temporary and will fade within a few hours. In the meantime, here are a few tips to help your body recover and feel better faster…

Try to get ahead of overindulgence

We can learn to manage our cravings and our excesses so they cause as little disruption as possible. The key is to reach for the healthier options on the festive table first — think fish, vegetables or lean meats. Then, if you’re still hungry, help yourself to the more indulgent dishes in small portions, just once! Trust us: limiting yourself to 2 chocolates instead of the whole box will make a real difference to how you feel in the hours that follow…

Get some fresh air

As well as putting some distance between you and the temptations still sitting on the table, a gentle fifteen-minute stroll will boost your circulation and support both digestion and cellulite elimination. And walking in the cold air after Christmas dinner is a great way to shake off that post-meal fatigue!

Massage your stomach

If you have a stomach ache, a great solution is to lie down for a few minutes and give yourself a gentle massage to aid digestion. To do this, make small, slow circles around your navel, applying firm pressure. Just be careful not to fall asleep — lying down for too long is not ideal for digestion after overindulging!

Try Betaine Citrate and essential oils

To help your body recover more quickly, consider taking a Betaine Citrate tablet after overindulging. This remedy stimulates acid production in the stomach, helping to ease digestion. You can also try 1 drop of lemon or peppermint essential oil, both well known for their digestive and anti-cellulite properties!

After overindulging, stay well hydrated

For even better results, you could try a slimming tea, which will help eliminate accumulated toxins and fats while soothing that bloated feeling.

Lighten up your next meals

Overindulging is no reason to skip your next meals! To avoid disrupting your body and your eating rhythm further, don’t skip any meals — just keep them light. If you overdid it at lunch, go for a soup, a yoghurt and a piece of cooked fruit in the evening. These foods won’t overwork your stomach and will help you avoid another bout of discomfort. For the next 2 to 3 meals, focus on filling your plate with detox and anti-cellulite foods such as lean proteins (chicken, lean ham…), a little wholegrain starchy food and plenty of cooked vegetables. Steer clear of fatty foods, salt, and raw fruit and vegetables, which can be harder to digest.

Don’t forget to exercise

While working out in the hours immediately after overindulging is definitely not recommended, don’t forget to lace up your trainers the next day! As well as giving you an energy boost, a workout will help burn off some of the extra calories consumed the day before and prevent fat from being stored. Ideally, try one of the anti-cellulite sports we recommend right here!

Keep up your cupping massage sessions

After one (or several) overindulgent meals, it’s common to feel heavy and bloated… This is absolutely not the time to give up your massages with your Cellublue Cup! Through the palpate-and-roll technique, you’ll improve blood and lymphatic circulation throughout your body, helping to flush out the toxins that build up during periods of excess. What’s more, the Cellublue Cup works to break down fatty deposits — the areas where excess fat accumulates and forms cellulite. So to help your body release stored fat and rediscover smooth, firm, dimple-free skin, keep up your regular massage routine!

If you’ve overindulged, don’t be too hard on yourself! As long as it stays occasional, one big meal won’t undo all your hard work, cause weight gain or make your cellulite worse… as long as your everyday routine includes balanced meals, a little exercise and anti-cellulite massages!
